Do signature bridges earn their keep?

The Skydance Bridge in Oklahoma City. It's undeniably striking, and it does get people across the highway. Could the same money have fixed a lot of crossings instead, or is the showpiece what gets the funding through?

Often the answer is that the showpiece money wouldn't have been available for the boring crossings anyway. Frustrating, but true.

I'd still like to see more budgets where you have to fix the ten dull crossings first.

It looks like a giant bird trying to escape the highway, which I respect.
