Wildlife ethics check: how close is too close?

A red fox at Puale Bay, from the US Fish & Wildlife Service. It looks relaxed, and I suspect a long lens is why. What are your own rules for this?

If the animal changes what it's doing because of you, you're too close.

That first rule is good for people, too, frankly.

Please, no feeding them for the photo. They learn fast, and it never ends well for them.
