Is Yellowstone National Park (Back) in Its Wild West Era?

The lawless early days at our first national park tell us where a gutted NPS system could be heading.

An opinion piece, but the historical comparison with the park's lawless early days is interesting. Have you noticed visitor behavior changing where you hike?

More people getting close to wildlife for photos, for sure. Hard to tell whether that's new or I'm just noticing it more.

Trail erosion from shortcuts is what gets me. It only takes a couple of seasons to carve a new scar.

As someone who takes photos: nobody needs that shot of a bison. Use a longer lens or leave it.
