Trip report: snow patches in the Dolomites, later than I expected

This is the route up toward Piz Boè from Sass Pordoi. Sharing it because the photo captures what I keep having to re-learn: a trail can look completely fine on a forecast and still have old snow sitting across it.

Lessons, again:

Check recent trip reports rather than just the weather
Microspikes weigh almost nothing
Turning back is a perfectly good outcome

How far into the season are the patches usually gone up there?

No idea year to year, which is the point. Ask at the hut if there's one open, they'll know.

That light on the far ridge, though. Worth a little cold.

Please also watch for the alpine plants at the edge of melting snow. They've got a short season as it is.
